Software Engineering/Life Cycle Management

BRTech software engineers develop business, scientific, and systems applications over
the entire spectrum of operating systems and hardware platforms, with an emphasis on
object-oriented distributed client/server applications. Software tools and languages
include Rational Rose, TogetherJ, XML, C++, Java, along with many others. BRTech's
software processes have helped clients at Level 3 of the SEI's Capability Maturity Model.
BRTech is providing quality assurance and configuration management services to its
customers to ensure the software being developed meets the specific requirements, is
thoroughly tested to minimize errors and problems, and is managed to ensure disciplined
change and release management. In doing so, we use tools such as Rational Purify,
Rational ClearCase, and Distributed Defect Tracking System.

Systems Engineering
|
BRTech provides architecture, design, installation, and management support to clients in
the integration, testing, and delivery of data management systems, network management
systems, and messaging systems. As a part of ISO 9001/CMM level 3 process, we produce and maintain following
documents:
- Requirements, use cases, object model, sequence diagrams, ODL message formats, and ICD.
- Functional overview, context diagrams, interface event descriptions,
architecture diagrams, process descriptions, process interface events
descriptions, data stores, subsystem hardware; Database design and
schema specifications; Operational scenario description, pre-conditions,
partitions, thread interaction diagram, sub-system interaction table
(domain view), component interaction table; The user interface
characteristic description of the software tools and their user scenarios; Configuration parameters.
- Use ClearDDTS web tool that manages and tracks any changes or
defects throughout the life cycle of a project, directly from the database.
- Use Software Turnover Tracking System (STTS), an automated
workflow system, to document and track the status of code changes, code
integration, and software delivery.
- Use ClearCase configuration management tool to create and maintain
multiple code baselines to deliver versions of system executables.

Data Management
|
|
BRTech's engineers were tech leads, architects, and developers for several components
in Data Management (DMS) and Client (CLS) subsystems for NASA's ECS/EOSDIS
project. ECS/EOSDIS is an Earth Science Enterprise satellite ground system to advance
scientific understanding of the entire earth system. It is a large (over 2.5 million lines of
C++, Java, XML, HTML) multi-tier geographically distributed, secure (ssh), client/server
system that collects (488 GB/day), analyzes, processes (1600 GB/day) and serves as
"one-stop shopping" access to earth science data for researchers.

Network Management Systems
|
|
Alcatel's 1100 Network Management System is a suite of software products that run on a
SUN SPARCSTATION hardware platform. Other third party products included with the
Alcatel 1100 Network Management System are HP OpenView and the Oracle v7 RDMS.
We were assigned to do the design, development and testing of configuration management
software in support of the Alcatel 1100 HSS, which is a data switch that supports both Frame
Relay and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) protocols.
We also developed configuration, system, and contingency management for Comsat's
satellite based aero network channel management system.

Messaging Systems
|
|
BRTech built an integrated Address Book, Calendar and Alert notification system for
web and WAP enabled devices. These services are delivered with the partner's logo and
brand name, strengthening the relationship they have with their customers. BRTech
supports SMS, WAP, Yahoo Instant Messenger, Microsoft Instant Messenger, and
variety of other protocols enabling users to access the same information from PCs, Cell
phones, pagers, or instant messengers. It is built using a combination of J2EE (JSP,
JavaMail, JMS, JDBC, JAXP), Apache, Tomcat, XML, and Java.
